The Mezzanine Allstars (formerly with Captain Slackship), a roots/dub collective based in Glasgow, Scotland, have over the last three years brought their unique reggae/dub/fusion style to numerous festivals (e.g. Knockengorroch, Eden, Big Tent, Kelburn Garden Party, Kaleidoscope) and supported legends the likes of the Wailers, Lee ‘Scratch Perry’, Femi Kuti, Toots & the Maytals (twice), The Mighty Diamonds and Wailing Souls.
Scotland’s top dub outfit have undergone some changes of late – with the good Captain setting sail for new horizons – the opportunity has been taken to mutate into a new form and change the approach. Now operating more as a collective, with 10-12 members sharing a love of roots and dub music, the band has embarked on writing a new set of original tunes fresh for 2012, and is actively pursuing collaborations with like minds. The first such collaboration was a new set for the Wee Dub Festival in Edinburgh in February 2012 at the Bongo Club, featuring the vocal talents of Scotland”s own Papa Zeb, and after more personnel comings and goings this year the winter’s looking good.
With Jamaican and UK roots and dub music as the major inspiration, The Mezzanine Allstars deliver quality bass-driven grooves, featuring the sounds of The Horns of Plenty, arguably the lushest horn section in Scotland. Guaranteed to get the dancefloor moving.
