Mungo’s Hi-Fi Soundsystem

Mungo’s Hi Fi is a sound system based in Glasgow, Scotland which follows the original Jamaican sound system tradition. They are widely regarded as one of the most eminent producers and soundsystems in the UK today.

After working together as the Dub Dentists, Tom Tattersall and Doug Paine founded the group in 2000, writing, recording, producing and performing their own brand of reggae and dub music, working in collaboration with other artists and producers.

They were joined in 2002 by Craig Macleod, and then in 2006 by Jerome Joly. Bringing up-to-date reggae, dub and dancehall sounds to Glasgow across the city in venues such as the Glasgow School of Art. The sound system quickly became part of a wider reggae network with a hectic schedule of live performance, both djing and as a sound system at clubs and events across the UK and Europe.

Numerous festival appearances have seen Mungo’s brought to Glastonbury, Womad, Outlook and various other festivals where they have hosted stages and tents, performing and bringing some high-profile artists to the UK. In 2012 they released their third album - Forward Ever - which has cemented Mungo’s Hi-Fi in the premiership of modern dancehall culture.

For the first time we welcome the full Mungo’s Hi-Fi Soundsystem to Edinburgh as part of Wee Dub Festival - a very exciting prospect indeed. They perform with Solo Banton, Iration Steppas and Riddim Tuffa at Session 4, and provide sound at Session 5.

Date: Sunday 3rd February
